The Dalai Lama has joined Instagram. Prepare yourselves for highly spiritual photographs of sandwiches!
The DL joined Twitter in 2010, before it was cool for major world leaders to tweet. The Dalai Lama took to Twitter this morning to spread the good news:

It appears the Instagram will be used to document the Dalai Lama's travels, which brought him to the White House last week to meet with President Obama. China was less than pleased about this, as they consider the Dalai Lama a Tibetan separatist. The Times reported that China claimed the meeting would "severely damage relations between Washington and Beijing."
The Dalai Lama explained his perspective on social media in a recent interview with Time. When asked whether social media hurts happiness, he replied:
"It depends on how you use them. If the person, himself or herself, has a certain inner strength, a certain confidence, then it is no problem. But if an individual’s mind is weak, then there is more confusion. You can’t blame technology. It depends on the user of the technology."
