Kim Jong-un ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Spoof Published in China

Think you have a hard time knowing when someone is joking or not? Apparently so does China, according to Time. Coming across a satirical news post on The Onion which dubbed the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “The Sexiest Man Alive forr 2012”, China’s People’s Daily took the story and ran with it in their own online news.

Not wanting to be outdone by a capitalist print, China’s version posted a full 55 page photo spread of the “hunk of love”, including quotes from The Onion such as:

“He has that rare ability to somehow be completely adorable and completely macho at the same time,” Onion Style and Entertainment editor Marissa Blake-Zweibel said. “And that’s the quality that makes him the sort of man women want, and men want to be. He’s a real hunk with real intensity who also knows how to cut loose and let his hair down.”

I’d post a link to the Chinese story here, but SOMEONE in the country figured out the rest of the world was laughing at them and promptly removed it.

What’s extra sad is this isn’t the first time China’s had a “oops” moment – the last most notable one being when they used actual footage from the movie Top Gun and claimed it was their air force doing training exercises. Pretty creative, especially if you overlook the fact that the clip they used showed an American F-14 shooting down a MIG (the same aircraft the Chinese air force uses). I could be wrong, but generally speaking practicing getting blown up isn’t necessarily the best tactic to be focusing on.
