An NYPD police officer killed her boyfriend, 1-year-old child and herself with a gun this morning in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, according to multiple news outlets.
Here's what you need to know.
1. The Shooter Was a Veteran NYPD Officer
Cops say the female officer had worked since 2000 as an NYPD officer. She was assigned to the 108th Precinct in Queens, reports the New York Post. She was 43 years old. NY1.com identifies her as Rosette Samuel.
2. She Was Found Dead in Bed with the Baby
Cops found the boyfriend, described as between the ages of 30 and 40, lying in the doorway. They found the shooter lying on a bed wither her baby. All three were shot dead. Samuel and the baby were shot in the chest, reports NBC. ABC New York reports the child was found in her arms.
3. She Shot the Boyfriend First
Police believe the shooter took out the boyfriend, then the toddler, and finally herself.
4. A Teen Son Escaped Out the Window
The Daily News reports that a 19-year-old son climbed out the window to escape the scene and ran into arriving officers. CBS New York reports it was this son who called 911. The Post reports he is the shooter's son from a previous marriage. The Daily News reports he fled wearing only boxer shorts and a windbreaker and ran into arriving cops, who responded around 8 a.m. Monday to the ground-floor residence at 805 East 56th Street.
5. NBC Reports a "Standoff"
According to NBC there was a "brief standoff":
Police responded to the home on East 56th Street in Flatbush after receiving reports of shots fired and, after a brief standoff with authorities, the officer killed herself and the others, law enforcement sources said.
