Police say a South Carolina man set his mother on fire in their rural home on Tuesday morning, then fled to his brother's house where the brother shot him twice.
Sixty-one-year-old Debra Davis suffered second- and third-degree burns to 40 percent of her body and may have been doused in gasoline. She was airlifted to a burn center, and her life is in jeopardy, reports the Independent Mail.
Neighbor Randy Clark, who found the desperate victim pounding on his door, told WSPA:
I just heard someone screaming 'Help me!' I opened the door and the smell of gas was powerful, and her clothes were melted.
Cops responded around 8 a.m. to the home in the town of Piedmont. Cops say the son, a 37-year-old whose name has not been released, fled the scene and paid a visit to his brother.
They had an argument, and the second brother shot the alleged mom-burner twice. Cops say they won't charge the shooter.
