Hieron returns to the UFC

Welterweight Jay Hieron is returning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

MMAjunkie.com reported the news today.

Hieron will return at UFC 151 against Jake Ellenberger on September 1 as a replacement for an injured Josh Koscheck.

The promotion announced Koscheck’s removal from the card earlier today. The 170 lb. contender suffered an injury while training for the bout against Ellenberger.

UFC 151 takes place next month in Las Vegas, Nevada. A light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and top contender Dan Henderson will headline the pay-per-view card.

Hieron last fought on July 13 in his Legacy Fighting Championship debut, earning a technical submission victory. Prior to that fight, he lost to Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren via split-decision in October of 2011.

The veteran of the sport is on an 11-1 tear, though he has not competed in the UFC for some time. His last fight with the promotion was a 2005 loss to Jonathan Goulet.
