UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans Medical Suspensions

Michael McDonald knocks out Miguel Torres at UFC 145 (James Law/HeavyMMA)

Miguel Torres out 60 days, Mac Danzig indefinitely

All 24 fighters from Saturday’s UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans pay-per-view in Atlanta were given medical suspensions following their fights, though most are just seven-day orders – standard procedure in Georgia.

The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission, which oversees MMA and boxing in the state, on Tuesday released the medical suspensions to HeavyMMA.com.

Mac Danzig, winner of Season 6 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” was suspended indefinitely – though once his right ankle is x-rayed and cleared by a doctor, he will be able to return. Danzig injured the ankle during a submission attempt from Efrain Escudero, but battled through it and won a unanimous decision on the preliminary card.

Former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres was given the longest suspension. After his knockout loss to Michael McDonald, Torres will be out 60 days and also will need to pass a CT scan before he is allowed to return. Matt Brown upset Stephen Thompson, but took some hard shots himself and will be out for 45 days. He, too, must undergo a CT scan; Thompson is out just 14 days, but needs a CT scan, as well. Main card heavyweight Brendan Schaub will be on the shelf for 45 days after his knockout loss to Ben Rothwell, as will co-main event welterweight Che Mills, who lost by TKO to Rory MacDonald. Chad Griggs, Eddie Yagin and Mark Hominick all are out for 30 days with no contact for 21 days, and Yagin and Hominick need to pass CT scans after their Fight of the Night, which Yagin won by split decision.

The main event at UFC 145 was a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and former champion Rashad Evans. Jones won by unanimous decision after five rounds, but both fighters were given only the standard seven-day precautionary orders.
