Top light heavyweight contenders square off on Memorial Day weekend
A light heavyweight bout between Thiago Silva and Rampage Jackson is being targeted for UFC 130 in May.
Heavy.com confirmed the fight booking with a source close to the promotion on Friday night. MMAjunkie.com first reported the story.
UFC 130 takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Jackson/Silva bout is expected to assume the co-headlining role for the pay per view event.
Silva defeated Brandon Vera at UFC 125 last weekend in a dominating decision despite being sidelined for over a year due to injury. The heady-handed Brazilian used excellent takedowns and ground and pound to scored a lopsided victory.
Jackson defeated Lyoto Machida in November at UFC 125 in a close split decision.
The winner of the Jackson/Silva bout is expected to figure heavily into the light heavyweight title picture going into the latter stages of 2011.
