Xbox One Price Update: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

The Xbox One was announced in a stunning event hosted by Microsoft in Redmond, Washington on May 21st. But, similar to Sony’s announcement for the PlayStation 4, Microsoft didn’t announce the price for the Xbox One. Here’s what we know so far about the Xbox One’s price.

1. Amazon Germany May Have Leaked The Price of the Xbox One

Unknown

Amazon’s Germany store may have accidentally confirmed the price of the Xbox One (but it’s unlikely, and we’ll get into that later). Even though the release date hasn’t been announced, online retailers have already started pre-orders for the Xbox One console/entertainment system. Amazon’s Germany store has pegged the Xbox One price at 599 Euros, but, according to Geek.com, Amazon Germany may be going on speculation instead of concrete information from Microsoft.

2. There’s A Slim Chance Amazon Germany Is Right, Though

Unknown-1

There’s a very slim shot that Amazon Germany’s price for the Xbox One is right, though. 599 Euros converts to $770 American dollars, which is an insanely high price for a video game console. The Xbox 360 was priced at $399 and the PlayStation 3 was price at $499. Obviously, not a small purchase, but much cheaper than $770 — you can buy a few tablets with that kind of cash!

3. There are Other Reports About the Xbox One’s Price

Unknown-2

As we previously wrote, there are other reports regarding the price of the Xbox One.

Paul Thurrott from Windows IT Pro, one of the premiere Microsoft bloggers on the Internet, has a different opinion on the pricing of the Xbox One. He thinks that there will be two versions sold: a regular version at $499 and a subsidized version at just $299 with a mandatory 2 year Xbox Live Gold subscription at only $10 a month. That would mean the subsidized Xbox One will be $540, according to Thurrott’s estimations.

4. It’ll Probably Be Priced Around the PS4

Unknown-3

It’s clear that Microsoft is learning from past successes, and the failures of Sony and the PS4, and is acting accordingly when it comes to the Xbox One. Sony made a huge mistake by not showing the PS4, announcing the price or release date, and having a 3 hour presentation this past May when they “announced” PS4. Microsoft had a snappy and exciting event for the Xbox One, which is probably because everyone was so pissed at Sony. Similarly, it would make sense if Microsoft announces the price of the Xbox One after the PS4 price is announced, so that Microsoft has the option of undercutting Sony and pricing the Xbox One cheaper than the PS4.
