What’s New In Games This Week

It’s yet another big week for releases as a PS3 only affair gets a pseudo-sequel for both systems, the makers of Fallout team up with the masters of first person shooting, and yet another Spider-Man game swings into action…

Do like the dark? Do you enjoy dying over, and over again? How about crawling around a randomly generated dungeon for hours on end, until something lurking in the shadows not only robs you of your virtual life but all the loot you’ve fought hard for in the blink of an eye? Did you also think Demon’s Souls was too easy? Well, if you said yes to all of the above, then Dark Souls is the game for you! It’s the spiritual successor of the aforementioned PS3-only release, which means Xbox gamers can finally have a taste of the most sadomasochistic game in recent memory! Xbox 360, PS3

Bethesda has proven itself to be the experts when it comes to creating a sandbox set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, as anyone that’s played Fallout 3 can attest. So what makes RAGE any different? Well, first off, it’s take on the day after has a distinctly Mad Max-vibe, even more so than their previous offerings. But for the most part it’s a primarily action oriented affair, hence why it’s being published by id Software. There will definitely be role playing elements, no doubt, but the emphasis will be less on story and more on shooting or being shot at. Plus on top of all that will be a fair bit of driving! Again, we’re talking Mad Max here. PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Spider-Man: Edge of Time
[BoxTitle]Spider-Man: Edge of Time [/BoxTitle] [Trailer]http://heavy.com/games/games-videos/game-trailers/2011/04/spider-man-edge-of-time-game-trailer/[/Trailer] [BuyNow]http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-Spider+Man+Edge+of+Time[/BuyNow]

Another Spider-Man game in which he swings around with versions of himself from different timelines and alternate realities. Seen that, done that, right? Thankfully, the last one was actually pretty good and this latest effort appears to be building upon everything that made Shattered Dimensions work. Which in Edge of Time’s case means trimming some fat (it’s just you and your Latino cousin from the year 2099, thank goodness) and a brand new “cause and affect” system. Basically, what you do in one timeline will have an impact in the other (the past having an effect on the future makes sense, but not so sure about the other way around). Many are excited by the all-star cast, though the fact that they also got comics scribe Peter David to write the script is what has me the most pumped. PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS
