James visited Jimmy Kimmel Live last night with his Divergent costar Shailene Woodley. During the interview, they premiered this new and final trailer for the film.
Here's all you need to know about the 29-year-old breakout star with the British accent who is sure to win over many hearts.
1. He Was on One Memorable Episode of 'Downtown Abbey'
He had a small role on the hit PBS show Downtown Abbey. On the British drama, he played a Turkish diplomat, Kemal Pamuk, who had a tryst with Lady Mary Crawley.
Amazingly, although only on screen for 20 minutes, he amassed a fan base from that appearance. He told Cosmopolitan about the incredible phenomenon that is his character.
Obviously, it's awesome to be recognized and the show is a great piece of work, but I suppose it is strange because he's only in about 20 minutes of one episode. So I hear, though, he's still in the show by name through the end of season one and season two apparently?
2. He Was Cast as Four in 'Divergent'
The movie is based on a popular book series of the same name, set within a dystopian version of Chicago.
The series' author, Veronica Roth, was elated to get James on board. She told SugarScape that she liked his personality for this coveted role.
It was like this really tough dude with this like little soft underbelly, just a little hint of the sensitivity so I was happy with it yeah.
James told MTV about his buzzed-about make out scene with Woodley, who plays the heroine, Tris.
I just went at it hard, to be honest, because I thought that's how she wanted it. I thought to assuage any awkwardness I would just go for it. She was kind of batting away my hands.
3. He Was in an Indie-Rock Band
When he wasn't acting, James was rocking out with his band, Shere Khan. The band was based in Surbiton, England.
In 2012, the rock group posted this on their Facebook page:
4. He Has a Famous Shower Scene
This scene is from James' role as Detective Walter William Clark on Golden Boy. In the 2013 CBS show, that was canceled a few months later, he played New York City's youngest police commissioner.
5. He Lost His British Accent for 'Divergent'
Born in Oxford, he attended the University of Nottingham and earned a degree in philosophy. He went on to study acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
He chose to speak in an American accent for the entire Divergent shoot. He explained to MTV why that was.
For me, I think I find it easier to just be in the space all the time, so it becomes second nature because if I'm switching back and forth suddenly you're going to get a weird Cockney Four. Because I'm obviously a Cockney. I hope [Shailene] thinks I'm a Cockney.
So does the accent help him get dates? He dished to Cosmopolitan that he doesn't feel like a "player."
You know what? I've had a girlfriend for a long time, so I don't really feel like that much of a player now. There were times I when I'd go out and have some fun, but I wouldn't say I was a "playa."
