Brock Purdy : Gets massive five-year extension

Purdy and the 49ers agreed to terms Friday on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Purdy's new deal has been the largest domino waiting to fall of San Francisco's offseason, and the 2022 seventh-round pick now gains long-term commitment from the team via a contract that runs through 2030, and which includes $181 million in total guarantees. The 25-year-old is coming off a down season, having dipped essentially across the board in most passing metrics while throwing just 20 touchdowns, as opposed to the 31 passing scores he logged in 2023. San Francisco's offense as a whole tumbled in 2024, though, an outcome that can in no small part be blamed on injuries to Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) and Christian McCaffrey (knee). The 49ers also inked George Kittle to a four-year extension this offseason, a particularly notable signing given that the standout tight end may operate as Purdy's top pass catcher to kick off the 2025 season, considering Deebo Samuel has been traded to Washington and Aiyuk is still in the process of recovering. Still, with McCaffrey back in action, plus Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson available to lead the wide-receiver room until Aiyuk is 100 percent, Purdy will have no shortage of offensive weapons at his disposal as he works to make the first year under his new deal a comeback season.

Anders Carlson : Competing for starting role

Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis are slated to compete for the Jets' starting kicker job in training camp in the wake of the Jets having released veteran Greg Zuerlein (knee) Friday, Andy Vasquez of NJ.com reports. Carlson kicked for New York in five regular-season games in 2024, while also logging two appearances with the 49ers. In those seven contest combined, he converted 13 of 15 field-goal attempts and 12 of 15 extra-point tries. Zuerlein's release has been expected all offseason, but with the transaction now official, Carlson's path to a starting role Week 1 is unambiguous. The Jets could still bring in further competition, but for the time being, Davis, an undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss, is his only rival for the No. 1 gig.

Troy Hairston : Could have role in 2025

Hairston is in line for a role on the 2025 roster with the expectation that the Browns will utilize the fullback position this season, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Hairston, who signed a futures contract with the Browns in January, has game experience at fullback from when he was with the Texans. Whether the Browns actually carry a fullback and make plans to use the position will evolve over the summer. Hairston's fate is tied to the number of tight ends and true running backs that end up sticking around.

Christian Barmore : Good to go

Barmore (illness) said Thursday that he's past his blood clot issue, cleared for offseason workouts and expecting to play Week 1, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports. The defensive tackle was diagnosed with blood clots ahead of the 2024 campaign and then missed the first 10 games. After returning for four contests, his symptoms came back, forcing him onto the reserve/non-football illness list for the final three weeks of the season. The Alabama product and 2021 second-round pick recorded 64 tackles (39 solo), including 8.5 sacks, and six pass breakups in 2023, his last healthy season.

Elgton Jenkins : Not attending workouts

Jenkins is skipping Green Bay's offseason workouts, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports. While Jenkins has recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered during the team's wild-card loss versus the Eagles in January, the 26-year-old is instead holding out due to a contract dispute. Jenkins could be moved from guard to center ahead of the start of the upcoming season and it remains to be seen when he'll rejoin the team.

Aaron Gordon : Expected to be deemed questionable

Gordon (hamstring) is expected to be listed as questionable for Sunday's Game 7 against the Thunder, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports. Gordon was diagnosed with a left hamstring strain Friday, and he appeared to have suffered the injury in the latter stages of the Game 6 victory Thursday. The questionable tag means a decision on Gordon won't be made until closer to Sunday's 3:30 p.m. ET tipoff, and he could very well end up being a game-time call. Gordon is averaging 14.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists across 37.5 minutes per game in the series against Oklahoma City.

Aaron Gordon : Diagnosed with hamstring strain

Gordon has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, and his status for Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Thunder on Sunday is in jeopardy, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Gordon was seen dealing with this left hamstring problem in the latter stages of the Game 6 win Thursday, and it has become an issue that might sideline him from Denver's biggest game of the campaign. Gordon has some time to rest since Game 7 will be played Sunday, but if he's unable to recover, then Russell Westbrook could be an option to move into the starting lineup.

Precious Achiuwa : Available to play Friday

Achiuwa (ankle) is available for Game 6 against the Knicks on Friday. Achiuwa was initially listed as questionable for Friday's game due to a sprained right ankle, but the big man will end up being available. That said, he's not expected to see a lot of minutes since he's essentially a depth piece in the frontcourt. Achiuwa is averaging a mere 3.8 minutes per game in the series.

Kristaps Porzingis : Moving to bench role

Porzingis is not in the starting lineup for Game 6 against the Knicks on Friday. Porzingis has struggled massively in the series and was outplayed by Luke Kornet in the Game 5 win Wednesday, so it's not entirely surprising to see the former move to a bench role. Porzingis is averaging 4.2 points and 3.4 rebounds across 16.4 minutes per game in the series while starting in just two of the six outings.

Luke Kornet : Starting in Game 6

Kornet is in the starting lineup for Game 6 against the Knicks on Friday. Kornet was outstanding for Boston in the Game 5 win while finishing with 10 points (5-5 FG), nine rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal in 26 minutes. Given all the struggles Kristaps Porzingis has endured in the series, starting Kornet after he delivered such an impressive stat line in Game 5 makes sense for the Celtics. They'll ride the hot hand for this do-or-die game.

Shohei Ohtani : Takes major-league lead in homers

Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Angels. Ohtani has four homers and eight RBI over his last three games. That power surge, part of a larger binge of nine long balls and 19 RBI across 14 games in May, has helped him take over the major-league lead in homers at 16. He's added a .316 batting average, 1.106 OPS, 29 RBI, 49 runs scored and 10 stolen bases over 43 contests. Simply put, Ohtani continues to make the remarkable look routine.

Dustin May : Yields four runs Friday

May (1-4) took the loss Friday versus the Angels, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings. The eight strikeouts were a season high for the right-hander, giving him a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster outing. This was May's third straight loss, and he's allowed 10 runs over 17.1 innings in that span, despite a strong 19:5 K:BB. May is at a 4.43 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB across 44.2 innings through eight starts this season. Assuming the Dodgers stick with a six-man rotation next week, he's projected for a road start versus the Mets, though May could be bumped up to start at home versus the Diamondbacks if Matt Sauer or Landon Knack gets moved to the bullpen.

Jack Kochanowicz : Grabs third win

Kochanowicz (3-5) allowed a run on five hits and four walks while striking out five over 6.2 innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Friday. Kochanowicz was a little generous in allowing baserunners again -- this was the third time in four starts he's walked a season-high four batters. Despite that, the only run he allowed was on a Max Muncy double in the fourth inning. Kochanowicz was able to induce four double plays to offset the traffic on the bases. He's now at a 4.71 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 29:22 K:BB across 49.2 innings over nine starts. He's allowed just two runs over his last 12.1 innings, but he'll need to trim the walk rate to make that short-term success more sustainable. The 24-year-old is projected to start on the road versus the Athletics in his next outing.

Gabriel Moreno : Perfect at plate Friday

Moreno went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, one RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rockies. Moreno has a trio of multi-hit efforts over his last six games, going 9-for-25 (.360) with five RBI in that span. The catcher's recent success at the plate is helping him bounce back after a rough second half of April. He's now batting .259 with a .661 OPS, one home run, 10 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base and five doubles over 36 contests. While he is hitting better lately, Moreno is largely struggling even more than usual in the power department, though his contact skill remains his best tool.

Geraldo Perdomo : Drives in three

Perdomo went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, three RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rockies. Perdomo supplied his first two RBI with productive outs -- a groundout in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the fourth -- before adding an RBI double in the eighth. The shortstop is putting together a strong May, batting .354 (17-for-48) over 14 games this month while adding 10 RBI, three steals and an 8:9 BB:K. Overall, Perdomo slashing .294/.397/.458 with five home runs, 10 steals, 34 RBI, 21 runs scored and 10 doubles across 44 contests despite often hitting in the bottom third of the order since Ketel Marte returned from a hamstring injury May 2.
