The 49ers are slated to sign Joseph, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. In a combined eight regular-season appearances in 2024 (split between the Giants, Commanders and Jets), Joseph made 16 of 20 field-goal attempts, along with all 11 of his PAT tries. With the 49ers, Joseph will have an opportunity to compete with 2023 third-rounder Jake Moody, who has been San Francisco's kicker for the last two campaigns.
Purdy and the 49ers agreed to terms Friday on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Purdy's new deal has been the largest domino waiting to fall of San Francisco's offseason, and the 2022 seventh-round pick now gains long-term commitment from the team via a contract that runs through 2030, and which includes $181 million in total guarantees. The 25-year-old is coming off a down season, having dipped essentially across the board in most passing metrics while throwing just 20 touchdowns, as opposed to the 31 passing scores he logged in 2023. San Francisco's offense as a whole tumbled in 2024, though, an outcome that can in no small part be blamed on injuries to Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) and Christian McCaffrey (knee). The 49ers also inked George Kittle to a four-year extension this offseason, a particularly notable signing given that the standout tight end may operate as Purdy's top pass catcher to kick off the 2025 season, considering Deebo Samuel has been traded to Washington and Aiyuk is still in the process of recovering. Still, with McCaffrey back in action, plus Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson available to lead the wide-receiver room until Aiyuk is 100 percent, Purdy will have no shortage of offensive weapons at his disposal as he works to make the first year under his new deal a comeback season.
Tomlinson (undisclosed) reverted to the 49ers' injured reserve Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log. Tomlinson was waived by the 49ers on Friday with an injury designation. He was not picked up off waivers, and by reverting to San Francisco's injured reserve, Tomlinson will be forced to sit for the entire 2025 season unless an injury settlement is reached. He played in 15 regular-season games for the Rams in 2023, posting 13 tackles (11 solo) while mostly serving on special teams.
The 49ers signed Dillard (concussion) on Friday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Dillard was unable to suit up for the Packers' NFC wild-card loss to the Eagles due to a concussion, but his signing with the 49ers on Friday suggests he's since moved past the issue. Now in San Francisco, Dillard is expected to compete for a depth spot on the team's offensive line throughout the summer.
Rourke (knee) won't participate in the 49ers' rookie camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 2025 seventh-round pick played his final collegiate season on a torn ACL, so it's no surprise that he won't be ready for San Francisco's rookie minicamp. During Rourke's final season at Indiana, he threw for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns and five picks, while also adding two rushing touchdowns. Once the 24-year-old returns from his ACL injury, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the 49ers' quarterback room.
Dwelley signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Friday. Dwelley spent his first six NFL seasons in San Francisco before playing for the Falcons in 2024. Back in the Bay Area, the 30-year-old Dwelley will compete for a roster spot with the 49ers in 2025. He has just 17 receiving yards in 29 regular-season appearances over the past two seasons, so Dwelley doesn't project to factor into the passing game much, even if he makes the team.
The 49ers signed Humphries on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Humphries is headed to San Francisco after having appeared in two games with the Chiefs during the 2024 campaign. He will provide much needed depth at tackle as Trent Williams is still dealing with an ankle injury suffered last season.
