Latest Knicks News
Delon Wright : Rare appearance in Game 1 loss
Wright closed Wednesday's 138-135 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals with no counting stats in zero minutes. Wright made an appearance for just the second time these playoffs due purely to the fact Jalen Brunson was in foul trouble. Despite being a strong defender, Wright has been unable to carve out a consistent role in New York, something which certainly isn't out of the ordinary for fringe players under Tom Thibodeau. Barring injuries to others, Wright is likely going to spend the majority of his time riding the pine.
OG Anunoby : Strong two-way performance
Anunoby supplied 16 points (6-15 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals in 42 minutes during Wednesday's 138-135 overtime loss to the Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Anunoby got it done on both ends of the floor, albeit in a losing effort. He has now recorded 10 combined steals and blocks over the past two games, averaging 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and 3.0 three-pointers during that time. The loss sees the Knicks fall behind 1-0 despite having home-court advantage. Following what was a devastating defeat, New York will need to refocus heading into Game 2 Friday.
Karl-Anthony Towns : 35-point effort not enough
Towns logged 35 points (11-17 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 9-11 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 39 minutes during Wednesday's 138-135 overtime loss to the Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Towns scored a postseason-high 35 points, adding double-digit rebounds for the eighth time in the past 10 games. While both he and Jalen Brunson did everything they could to get the Knicks over the line, a late flurry by the Pacers proved too much. This will feel like one that got away for New York after having led by double-digits during the final quarter. Game 2 will be in New York on Friday, with the Knicks needing to win to avoid trailing 2-0 heading back to Indiana.
Jalen Brunson : Scores 43 points in crushing loss
Brunson generated 43 points (15-25 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 12-14 FT), five assists and one rebound over 38 minutes of Wednesday's 138-135 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Brunson got to his spots at will Wednesday, doing nearly all of his damage inside the arc. He picked up his fifth foul with 10 minutes left in regulation, forcing him to the sidelines for nearly half of the fourth quarter. Still, Brunson was on the floor for the final five minutes of the frame as Indiana came back from a 15-point deficit. The 28-year-old point guard provided six of New York's 10 points in overtime, but his potential game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds went long, resulting in the loss. The performance marked Brunson's fifth 40-point game of the season and his second of the playoffs.
Mikal Bridges : Tables 22 points Friday
Bridges recorded 22 points (9-15 FG, 4-6 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 119-81 win over the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Bridges chipped in across the board, continuing what has been a strong postseason showing. Although his scoring has been a little up and down, his ability to dominate on the defensive end of the floor has been invaluable. Across 12 playoff appearances, Bridges is averaging 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 three-pointers and 3.0 combined steals and blocks.
Karl-Anthony Towns : Goes for 21 and 12 in Game 6 win
Towns finished Friday's 119-81 victory over the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 21 points (8-20 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 35 minutes. Towns dominated the undermanned Celtics, racking up his seventh double-double in the past eight games. Although his scoring average has come down during the playoffs, his importance to this team is non-negotiable. After averaging 23.8 points per game during the regular season, that number has dropped to 19.8 across 12 postseason games. The Knicks will now face the Pacers in what promises to be a spicy matchup, with both teams looking to advance to the big dance.
Mitchell Robinson : Sees 14 minutes in Game 6
Robinson racked up one point (1-2 FT), four rebounds and one steal in 14 minutes during Friday's 119-81 win over Boston in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. While his box score won't reflect it, Robinson was a menace on the defensive end Friday. The Knicks are essentially using an eight-man rotation in the playoffs, and that's likely to be the case against Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals. In 12 postseason games, Robinson holds averages of 4.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 18.5 minutes.
Precious Achiuwa : Sees nine minutes in Game 6
Achiuwa had six points (2-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds over nine minutes during Friday's 119-81 win over the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Achiuwa was hobbled by an ankle injury coming into this game, but he was able to see some rare minutes in garbage time. The Knicks have used a very tight rotation in the playoffs, and that's likely to be the case against Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals.
