Singapore’s Old Parliament House is a beautiful building that has now been renamed as the Arts House at the Old Parliament. Constructed in the year 1827, the Old Parliament House is the oldest government building of Singapore existing till today. From the year 1965 to 1999, the building housed the parliament of Singapore, later the Parliament was moved to the adjacent building that was newly built.
Presently, the building has turned into an arts venue catering to different disciplines. This Arts House also plays host to many different art exhibitions and concerts. This Arts House was opened in the year 2004 after the parliament moved from there. This place was opened as an arts and heritage center.
The building that was constructed originally for the Parliament was restored in its past condition; and the designs were also preserved. The chambers of the building were transformed into a function room that was used for the musical performances. Today, many art exhibitions and other types of functions take place at this Arts House. The Arts House is designed in Tuscan-style reflected through the columns and cornices.
In the Arts House, there are many galleries, which organize different sculpture and art exhibitions. The interiors of the building showcase the true face of western art in Singapore.
