Sneaker Pimps: Mexico City

Sneaker Pimps is an organization founded by Australian artist, Peter Fahey in 2002 where shoes become the "ultimate form of personal expression." With shows sold out in 62 countries world wide, Sneaker Pimps draws crowds of more than half a million people with custom shoes and graphic and hip-hop artists.

Each show displays at least 1000 pairs of limited and rare editions of sneakers that are available for purchase by those who attend. There is no marketing for Sneaker Pimps. They have gained their reputation and success from word of mouth alone. Most of the artists and designers at Sneaker Pimps began on the streets with graffiti.

Australian creator, Peter Fahey admits that it didn't start off so well in Sydney back in 2002 but Sneaker Pimps have grown to an enormous level of success.

Hip-hop artist Ghost Face Killah confesses that he prefers the sneaker designs of the early 1980's when hip-hop was in its infancy. He says it sticks to the true image of hip-hop. "Sneakers is like having cars on your feet," he concludes.

Artist Futura began designing shoes for Nike on a project with Eminem and Sarah Jessica Parker. They made over 1000 shoes and raised $100,000 for the New York City Coalition for the Homeless.

Owner/president Sta$h is not only the owner of the company but is a designer and collector as well. He's designed 6 or 7 pairs of shoes for Sneaker Pimps.
