Apple Buys Topsy, Twitter Analytics Firm, for $200 Million

Typically hardware-focused Apple has made a strange acquisition purchasing Twitter Analytics firm, Topsy reports the Wall Street Journal. Above is the main page, showing the social media firm's focus on Twitter.

It is unknown what Apple will aim to do with Topsy, but Business Insider suggests that it could involve iTunes radio integration. Given Apple's tremendous level of integration with Facebook and Twitter, however, the company may be looking to expand the functionality and power of search with iOS or OSX. It remains to be seen, but this is a fascinating acquisition for Apple no matter how one looks at it.
