According to two separate leaks, the Moto X could come as soon as August 2013.
The Moto X has been a long rumored device, but it finally looks like it’ll actually get released. In May 2011, when the Google-Motorola Mobility acquisition was finalized, tech pundits were foaming at the mouth over the potential of Motorola producing Android phones under the Google umbrella. However, over a year since the deal was finalized and over two years since the deal was first announced, Motorola has yet to release a device.
However, Motorola is poised for a revival with the Moto X. The device was first confirmed at the All Things D’s D11 conference. As we previously wrote, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside talked about the Moto X at the conference, saying:
There is a lead device, it will be called Moto X. Motorola has always been good at managing power on the device, but we’re really good at managing sensors. We know when it’s in your pocket, we know when it’s in your hand, it’s going to know when you want to take a picture and fire up the cameras.The device will know when you’re in the car and it’s moving at 60mph and you’ll interact with it differently, more safely.
Motorola also issued a press release a few days later, which said the Moto X would be manufactured in the US.
There are several business advantages to having our Illinois and California-based designers and engineers much closer to our factory. For instance, we’ll be able to iterate on design much faster, create a leaner supply chain, respond much more quickly to purchasing trends and demands, and deliver devices to people here much more quickly.
But, now, more new information has come out regarding the potential release date of the Moto X.
Phonearena received a tip of what seems to be an internal Verizon memo that apparently says the release date for a number of devices.
According to the memo, the LG Exalt will be coming on July 25, the HTC One will come to Verizon on August 1st, and the Motorola MotoX will launch on August 23rd.

In a seemingly unrelated leak, MobileSyrub received a leaked memo from Rogers. The popular Canadian carrier will, according to the leak, exclusively launch the Moto X in Canada. The Moto X will also be on Rogers’ LTE Max Network which will launch in August along with the Moto X in Canada.
The question is: How accurate are these rumors? One early Moto X rumor said the device would be released on today, July 11th. Obviously that didn’t happen. But, that being said, the fact that two different leaks — one from Verizon, one from Rogers — saying the same thing (that the Moto X would be released in August) gives the rumor a bit more authenticity. However, don’t be surprised if the leaks are wrong; Woodside said to expect the device “before October,” which could hint at a Fall 2013 launch instead.
