Convicted pimp Mark W. Strong, 57, was sentenced to 20 days in prison by Judge Nancy Mills in a Portland, Maine, courtroom on Thursday morning.
Strong faced 13 charges of promotion of prostitution, having had other charges for invasion of privacy thrown out. Strong was found guilty last week.
Strong begins his sentence immediately. Judge Mills said of Strong:
I am satisfied that he does accept responsibility.
In a statement during his sentencing hearing, Strong said:
I guess I’m the only one to know the remorse I have for all my selfish actions and the harm that I’ve caused. During all this time, I’ve asked, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ and ‘Why am I living through this hell?’ when I should have been taking responsibility for what I’d done and how much harm I’ve caused.
I let myself justify what I had done,I will no longer justify my actions, and I will take all responsibility for what I’ve done.
The former private dick will serve his time at the local York County Jail. The 20-day sentence was far lower than the one-year sentence recommended by prosecutors, who cited Strong's lack of remorse as their reasoning. They also requested a $24,000 fine.
Present in court was Strong's wife, Julie, who pleaded with the court to "go easy" on her husband. Also in court was Officer Audra Presby, who was investigated by Strong during his time as a PI over romantic departmental affair.
Alexis Wright, 30, faces her trial in May, facing charges of promotion of prostitution, prostitution, as well as a string of tax and benefit fraud charges. Though she is reportedly seeking a plea agreement.
