A 55-year-old former RCMP officer named David Alan Kift and his wife, 53-year-old Marion Kift, each face hundreds of charges after a massive haul of illegal weapons and explosives were discovered in their home.
The former RCMP officer, now facing multiple weapons-related charges including illegal possession, alteration and manufacturing prohibited and restricted firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and explosives, illegal possession of prohibited devices and breach of parole conditions, was remanded into federal custody.
Police conducted a raid of his residence in Bancroft, Ontario and discovered two hidden compartments built into the walls of the home used to hide a large haul of illegal firearms and ammunition. Police say they seized 67 illegal firearms from the property.

Among the discoveries made were silencers, prohibited magazines, homemade assault rifles, pistols without serial numbers, firearms with the serial numbers removed, tasers, crossbows, zip guns, an automatic shotgun and a 32-inch long cannon.
In addition, police found numerous explosives including anti-personnel land mines, grenades, detonator cords and blasting caps.
In 2008, Kift was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in modifying and transporting illegal weapons for a gunrunning mobster. As part of his sentence, he was banned from owning a gun for 10 years.
His previous convictions including gun trafficking, filing serial numbers off weapons and possessing an illegal Sten machine gun.
Kift, the author of The Naked Mountie – a memoir about his service with the RCMP – will likely be denied bail due to his probation violations.
His wife Marion was released with conditions following a bail hearing.
Police expect more charges to be laid.
