30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto revealed in an interview with XFM the strangest gift he received from a fan. He told the London radio station that someone mailed him a human ear, in an expression of devotion the rock described as a "Van Gogh move."
In an interview about the band's upcoming album Love, Lust, Faith And Dreams, Jared Leto told XFM about the gifts he receives from his fans, or "The Echelon" as they like to call it. "The fans are an incredibly committed and passionate group of people. Going to a show is kind of like visiting Japan, you expect gifts on your arrival. You get all kinds of wonderful things."
This particular gift, however, stood out from them all in the weirdest way possible.
Jared Leto said that a fan cut off their own ear and sent it to him as a token of their love for him. "Someone cut their ear off once and sent it to me, that was very strange. A whole ear."
With the ear came a note that Jared shared with XFM and its listeners. "The note just said, are you listening? I never knew who it was, who's missing their ear out there."
So what did the singer do with the gift? Jared jokingly said that he made a necklace out of it. "Just don't put your entire body in a case and send it to us."
30 Seconds to Mars' fourth album arrives in stores May 17, but until then you can listen to their latest single "Up in the Air."
