Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced today that she supports the right for gay people to marry, according to Time. This is a view that has become increasingly embraced by potential Democratic candidates for president.
The announcement came in the form of a video (above) released by the gay advocacy group Human Rights Campaign. In the five-minute clip, she says that gay people are “full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship.”
“That includes marriage,” she continued, adding that she's a supporter of gay marriage “personally and as a matter of policy and law.” This announcement may give credence to those that are speculating that she'll make a bid for president in 2016. The view won't necessarily set her apart from her fellow potential candidates, like Vice President Joe Biden and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (who are also in support of gay marriage), but it certainly won't hurt her chances among fellow Democrats.
