The trial for the accused “Cannibal Cop” comes to a close today as federal prosecutors claim that former NYPD officer Gilberto Valle had crossed the line from fantasizing about kidnapping, cooking and eating women into an effort to make it become a reality.

Yahoo News reports that Valle, 28, has pleaded not guilty, and his defense attorney maintains that his client had merely engaged in fetish role play during his closing statement.

Valle is charged with gathering personal information about potential victims by using a law enforcement database, which could result in 5 years in prison, as well as conspiracy to kidnap, which has a sentence of 20 years to life if convicted.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Hadassa Waxman emphasized the extensive research found on Valle’s computer on kidnapping and cooking women. Earlier in the trial, the prosecution took the jury on a virtual tour of DarkFetishNet.com, a social networking site where members share photos of grotesque and extreme cruelty intended to sexually stimulate others.
