Glenn Beck Calls Ron Paul ‘Newest Member of Westboro Baptist Church’

Ouch. That tweet was in response to former congressman Ron Paul’s comments on Monday about the shooting of Navy Seal Chris Kyle at a shooting range in Texas over the weekend. Paul’s tweet read:

Paul was forced to backtrack slightly and clarified his statements on his Facebook page:

Westboro Baptist Church, Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, Ron Paul Tweet about Chris Kyle

The controversial former presidential candidate has one friend though in the Twittersphere, Westboro mouthpiece Shirley Phelps who retweeted Beck’s welcoming of Paul to the WBC and then added her own boneheaded commentary:

Buzzfeed confirmed that Ron Paul, unlike many other politicians, runs his own Twitter account.

The Westboro Baptist Church have gained notoriety in recent years for their protesting of Iraq and Afghanistan veteran’s funerals, blaming the deaths on homosexuality.

Paul was known as “Dr. No” in the House, where he consistently denounced US military intervention overseas. He voted against both the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. Paul retired from the House with the swearing in of the 113th Congress in January 2013.

Former Navy Seal Chris Kyle, 39, and his friend, Chad Littlefield, 35, were allegedly shot by Eddie Ray Routh, 25, on Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Texas.
