REPORT: J.J. Abrams to Direct ‘Star Wars’ Episode 7

Star Wars, JJ Abrams, New Director Star Wars VII, Disney.

A source has told The Wrap that Star Trek director J.J. Abrams will be announced as the director of the new Star Wars by Disney — SOON!

Rumors about who would be given the honor of directing the new Star Wars movie were all over the place, ranging from Sci-Fi masters like Joss Whedon and Guillermo del Toro to more mainstream film makers like Ben Affleck.

Back in November, Abrams told Entertainment Weekly that Star Wars wouldn’t be his next project, saying:

I have some original stuff I am working on next

But also added his admiration for the franchise:

As a kid I was always a fan of special effects, watching movies I was constantly trying to figure out how they did it, whatever the effect was. Star Wars was the first movie that blew my mind in that way; it didn’t matter how they did any of it because it was all so overwhelmingly and entirely great. It was funny and romantic and scary and compelling and the visual effects just served the characters and story. It galvanized for me; not for what was exciting about how movies were made, but rather for what movies were capable of.

Since George Lucas sold his company, Lucasfilm, to Disney in November for a hundred million billion dollars, a new reboot of the famed saga was announced. It had previously been announced that Toy Story writer Michael Arnt would be penning the latest sequel.

Now with Abrams on apparently board, fans of the iconic movie series should relax, this will be awesome.
