Ice Rescue Saves Bonehead Teens Clinging to Tree in Fool Hollow Lake

In Show Low, Arizona (yes, it’s a real place), three teenagers wandering onto the ice-covered Fool Hollow Lake (also the real name). When the ice started to crack, they climbed onto a dead tree that protruded from the lake and clutched for dear life, according to Brent Mix, spokesman for the Show Low fire squad.

AZCentral.com reports that at around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday (January 2), firefighters were called to the scene. The ice rescue team was called in to help the two teenagers who were stranded in the tree for over two hours, as one had jumped onto a snow bank.

The temperature dropped from 27 degrees when the rescue started to 22 degrees once the kids were safe, and all were sent to the hospital and treated for mild hypothermia.

A total of 25 people aided in the rescue, including firefighters, medics, park rangers and police officers.
