Robert Pimentel teacher molest

Robert Pimentel, a former Los Angeles Unified School District teacher, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually molesting at least 20 children and one adult, authorities said.

The 57-year-old teacher at George de la Torre Jr. Elementary School in Wilmington was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department and is being held on $12 million bail. LAPD said the Newport Beach, California, man faces eight counts of continuous sexual abuse and seven counts of lewd acts upon a child for a total of 15 charges.

Pimentel is also suspected of sexual assault of one adult, but police did not give further details.

An investigation on the alleged man was launched in March after several fourth-graders said that they had been inappropriately touched under and over their clothing by Pimentel. L.A. Unified Supt. John Deasy said the teacher and the principal were immediately removed when the district became aware of the allegations. The principal was removed along with the alleged because Deasy was "dissatisfied" with how the situation was handled.

Pimentel has worked for the school district since 1974. He retired from his position during the onset of the allegations and will still receive a full pension because he retired before the district took action against him, Deasy said:

Can you go back and fire someone who's already retired? No, you can't.
