It’s no surprise, but there is now official confirmation that Gen. David Petraeus’ wife is super pissed that her husband was banging his biographer, Paula Broadwell.
Army Col. Steven Boylan, a former spokesman for Petraeus, spoke to Good Morning America and described Holly Petraeus‘ reaction to the affair:
“Well, as you can imagine, she’s not exactly pleased right now. In a conversation with David Petraeus this weekend, he said that, ‘Furious would be an understatement.‘ And I think anyone that’s been put in that situation would probably agree. He deeply hurt the family.”
The disgraced general quit his post as CIA director on Friday as details of the affair emerged. Holly has been humiliated as the whole world learned her husband of 38 years was banging a younger, skinnier, prettier woman.
Holly is 60. Broadwell is 40.
Boylan also spoke to the emotional state of the general:
I’ve spoken to him [Petraeus] several times over the weekend since it broke. He, first of all deeply regrets and knows how much pain this has caused his family.He had a huge job and he felt he was doing great work and that is all gone now. This all started about two months after he was in the CIA as the director and it also ended about four months ago.
The colonel’s comments carefully place the onset of the affair after the general’s exit from the military. Adultery is forbidden in the armed forces, and an affair while enlisted is cause for a court-martial:
