Sharieff Rhaheed-Muhammad, 17, a star football player with Fort Pierce Central High School, has been arrested and charged with lewd lascivious behavior with his 14-year-old cousin, reports TC Palm.
The victim is reported to be Sharieff's cousin.
Here's what you need to know:
1. He's Just Declared For the University of Louisville
Last week, on signing day, Sharieff declared to play for the University of Louisville. He rejected the chance to play for Arkansas, Michigan State and Missouri to sign with the cardinals. Sharief was recruited to the school by former Miami Dolphin Terrell Buckley.
In light of the charges, the University of Louisville released a brief statement saying, "Coach Bobby Petrino is aware of the situation."
2. Sharieff is Accused of Impregnating His 14-Year-Old Cousin
According to reports, cops believe there is a 99.99 percent chance that he impregnated his 14-year-old cousin. Sharieff is charged with committing "lewd or lascivious conduct." This means that he's accused of "intentionally touching a person under 16 years of age in a lewd or lascivious manner."
The girl had an abortion in November, after her mother discovered her child was pregnant. The girl had said that her cousin, Sharieff, was the baby's father.
Intially, Sharieff's mother would not let cops take a DNA sample for her son. It was not until a warrant was served to Sharieff while he was at school that a DNA swab was taken, reports WPEC.
3. Sharieff 'Did Not Force Himself' on His Cousin
The TC Palm report says:
The girl said she was 11 when Rhaheed-Muhammad began touching her inappropriately. She said when they had sex in June 2013, Rhaheed-Muhammad “did not force himself on her and that it just happened.”
4. Sharieff is Ranked as One of the Best High School Linebackers in Florida
According to his ESPN scouting profile, Sharieff ranks as a 4 (out of 5) star prospect. He stands at 6-2 and weighs 202 pounds. His best game this season was reported to be against Bradenton-Manatee in a Region 2-8A game on November 22. During the game, he managed 11 tackles and an interception.
5. He's Been Released From Custody
Sharieff was released from a juvenile detention center in Fort Pierce on February 25.
