The Sacramento Kings will become the first professional sports team to accept Bitcoin, ESPN reported on Thursday.

According to the report, fans will be able to use the digital currency to buy tickets and gear in the team store beginning on March 1st.

Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive calls the decision to accept Bitcoin a way of blazing the trail for new technology in the fan experience.

We are maniacally focused on creating the most seamless experience for our fans in all facets,” Ranadive said in a statement provided by the Kings. “A major tenet of the NBA 3.0 philosophy is about utilizing technology for the betterment of the fan experience, and this is another step in that process.”

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Ranadive is also experimenting with having coaches use Google Glass during games.
