Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess, 28, has been arrested at Fort Lauderdale International Airport charged with assaulting a cop, reports the Miami Herald.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. He’s Accused of Hitting a Firefighter

He’s charged with assaulting a firefighter, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The incident occurred at around 6:19 a.m. on the morning of January 17. The arresting officers reported that Bess was acting bizarrely, “dancing, singing with his pant repeatedly falling down.”

CBS Miami reports:

The arrest report said Bess was asked by law enforcement if he was alright and gave no response. BSO said Bess then took a cup of coffee not belonging to him and squeezed the cup until the liquid poured over the officers uniform.

The arresting officer said Bess then took a fighting stance and the officer hit the football player with his ASP in the leg, but it had no effect.

The officer said Bess then took off his shirt, again took up a fighting stance, and refused repeated orders to get on the ground. Once back-up units arrived, Bess surrendered and was taken into custody.


2. This is His Second Infraction This Week


Bess is being investigated by the Cleveland Browns over a picture of weed he uploaded to Twitter earlier this week.


3. He’s Had Numerous Run-ins With the Law

Bess has had numerous run-ins with the law. During his college years, he lost his Oregon State scholarship over his role in a theft.


4. He Only Joined the Browns This Season

He began his NFL career in Miami where he spent five years before falling out with the organization in 2012. Bess was picked up by the Brownsdavone brown in 2013.

He missed the last two games of the regular season when he returned to his home in Oakland to deal with a personal problem.
