A 107-year-old man is dead after engaging a police in a shootout in a rural Arkansas home. On Saturday night, police were called in to deal with a case of aggravated assault at a house on the 1400 block of West 16th street in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, according to Arkansasmatters.com.
Two people called the police after they say 107-year-old Monroe Isadore pointed a gun at them. Police arrived at the residence just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. When police entered the home, Isadore allegedly fired upon the officers. No police were injured, but the gunfire prompted them to quickly leave the building and wait for reinforcements. The SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) unit was called in after officers' attempts to negotiate with Isadore failed to produce results. Using a small camera, police were able to see that Isadore was armed with a handgun.
The SWAT team pumped gas into the room, hoping it would prompt the senior citizen to surrender peaceful. When the gas did not work, police threw what local news station WPTV describe as a "distraction device" into the room.
Isadore was killed after the SWAT team breached the room and police say he fired upon the officers.
