Premila Lal, an 18-year-old track runner, was shot and killed by her friend, Nerrek Galley, after trying to prank him by hiding in his closet in Longmont, Colorado.
Here is what you need to know:
1. Galley Thought There Was an Intruder
Pravenn, Premila's father, told KDVR "[Premila and her cousin] somehow entered the house and my son and Nerrek didn't know it was them." After shooting Premila, Nerrek realized who she was. Neighbors then witnessed the four, Nerrek, Premila, Premila's 12-year-old cousin, and her 15-year-old brother exiting the house. The shooting happened at the 2500 block of Cambridge Drive at around 8PM.

Longmont Police Commander Jeff Satur said "we are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, but there is no danger to the community." He said that Premila being shot in the closet was consistent with the police investigation.
2. Lal Was Pronounced Dead at 9 Saturday Night

The above picture shows Lal's parents grieving the unexpected and tragic death of their daughter.
3. Galley's Facebook Shows His Enthusiasm for Weapons

In his Google+ profile he states "I like computers, cars, and guns and explosives. Mostly the guns and explosives though haha."
While Nerrek liked guns, there's nothing to suggest this was anything but an innocent, even a positive hobby. On his LinkedIn, he states an interest in a future in law enforcement:

4. Galley is Being Held by Police on Other Charges
He is being held on charges of "reckless endangerment" in addition to others. Despite the tragedy, Premila's father commented on Nerrek saying "We lost a daughter, so we don’t want anybody else to lose their son, you know, especially when it was accident," according to Denver's CBS.
5. Premila's Was a Great Student and Track Star.

Her GPA was reportedly 3.78 despite having changed schools three times. Her father described her as a "go-getter" who will be dearly missed.
