A Maryland elementary school teacher has been charged with a slew of unspeakable sex crimes against children as young as 5, some of which occurred at school.
Lawrence Wesley Joynes, 54, faces 14 counts of sex abuse of a minor, one count of sex abuse of a minor, one count of sex offense in the third degree, child abuse and second-degree rape, in a string of crimes that spans his 27-year career in the Montgomery County Public School system.
WJLA reports that he was arrested on March 1 on one count of possessing child pornography. Authorities discovered that some of the images and videos that were recovered may have been Joynes' students.
Fifteen victims have been identified, 14 of whom were victimized between kindergarten and second grade. The other victim was in seventh grade when they were allegedly repeatedly forced to have sex with Joynes over a three-year period in the 1990s. Joynes' other charges specifically stem from a range of acts including rape and inappropriate touching. WJLA reports that many of these incidents happened on school grounds, especially New Hampshire Estates Elementary School, where Joynes has worked for the last 10 years.
Joynes is being held on $1 million bail.
