Someone posted 'NO MUSLIM' parking signs outside the Westview Shopping Center in Houston, Texas on Friday. The sign read "no muslim parking in Westview Shopping Center. Your car will be towerd." The mall is 7 miles from the local El Farouq Mosque.
According to Local10.com, store employees admit that they get angry when mosque members use their parking lot, taking up spots for customers.
In their investigation, none of the store employees would take responsiblity for the signs. One even said that the mall owner, Steve Kwon posted the signs. Kwan denied the claim. His son removed the signs after an interview with KPRC. Kwon also vowed to hire a towing company to deal with non-patron parking lot users.
The signs were posted just before the weekend, which coincides with the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when many people were planned to be attending the mosque.
"I'm very shocked because we do live in a society that's supposed to be very accepting and this is what we all preach, that we all have the freedom of religion," said Yara Aboshady to Local 10. She was heading to the mosque.
