August 9, 2013 is the 68th anniversary of the United States dropping the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The city was completely destroyed and up to 80,000 people were killed either instantly or within the first few months as a result of the atomic bomb. On August 15, 1945, just six days after the bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan announced its unconditional surrender to the United States thus ending World War II. To commemorate this event, here are ten photos of the bomb and the aftermath it caused.
