NEW YORK, NY - JULY 4: A family poses for a picture in front of the Statue of Liberty on the first day it is open to the public after Hurricane Sandy on July 4, 2013 on the Liberty Island in New York City. The statue was mostly spared by the storm, but the surrounding infrastructure was badly damaged. (Photo by Kena Betancur/Getty Images)
Lady liberty is opening her doors in celebration of America's Independence Day. The symbolic monument had been closed since Superstorm Sandy hit the statue's home on Liberty Island last October. Americans across the country are sharing their thoughts about the reopening online.
I'm at the Statue of Liberty, on the 4th of July, the first day it's been open since Hurricane Sandy. Best experience ever.
