Democratic Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis is performing a one-woman filibuster to block a GOP-led effort that would impose new abortion restrictions across the United States' second-most populated state. In order for Davis' efforts to be successful, she must continue to talk about about the bill continuously until midnight.

Sporting pink tennis shoes to prepare for 13 hours of standing, the senator is not allowed to lean on her desk or take any breaks for meals or even to use the restroom.

If Davis' filibuster proves unsuccessful and the law passes, a woman living along the Mexican border or in West Texas would have to drive hundreds of miles to obtain an abortion.

In her opening remarks, Davis said she was "rising on the floor today to humbly give voice to thousands of Texans" and called Republican efforts to pass the bill a "raw abuse of power."
