A man standing on the Today show plaza stabbed himself this morning an an attempted suicide attempt as a shocked Matt Lauer was hosting the NBC morning show.
At 7:50 a.m., Today, which normally holds a section of its show out on the plaza of 47-50 Rockefeller Center, was forced to rush the show inside as security personnel tackled the man to the ground to ensure the he did not harm anyone else. A bystander posted a video from his cell phone of the man, an Asian man in his 50s who was reportedly ranting about the IRS, being tackled:

After the incident Matt Lauer tweeted updates:
All secure on the plaza after a scary incident. Thanks to our security team and the NYPD.

Because it was uncharacteristic of the Today show to be hosting the show inside on such a nice day, the anchors updated viewers and informed those who did not know what occurred.
Lauer later tweeted that the suicidal man was safe and no one else was harmed.
Sorry, a man attempted to harm himself with a knife. He is under police control. In custody.
