Nyack College Explosion: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

A gas explosion at Nyack College, in South Nyack, New York has left multiple people injured, reports Lohud.com. First responders are on scene and the Nyack Fire Department are being aided by departments from surrounding areas.

1. The Explosion is Consistent With a Natural Gas Explosion

ABC New York are reporting that the explosion is “consistent” with a regular natural gas explosion. Other reports from the scene say that doors and windows to the building were blown out by the force of the explosion.

2. “A Lot of People Hurt” Says Nyack Mayor

South Nyack Mayor Bonnie Christian is on scene and has said:

There’s a lot of people hurt, there’s a lot of people injured. We got ambulances up here galore.



Reports say
that everybody has now been accounted for.

3. The Explosion Happened in a Building Damaged During Hurricane Sandy

It’s reported that the explosion happened at the “Sky Island Lodge” on the campus, the home of the school’s Academic Success Center. The lodge was damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
