Today in a Washington Post Live Forum about education, Republican Governor of Mississippi Phil Bryant was asked the question, "How did American get so mediocre?" His response: working mothers.

He sank in slowly, like someone walking into a swamp, by modifying every statement with a "not that there's anything wrong with that," but the governor's final point? Since both parents are now in the workplace pursuing their careers no one is around to take care of the little American children.
If only one of those two would just give up and stay home, then America might usurp Estonia in math and reading scores. But, I wonder which parent the governor thinks should do the sacrificing...
