Nigeria and Pakistan are both among the worlds most anti-gay countries in the world, so why are so many people there googling for gay porn? Do homophobia and homoerotica go hand-in-hand?

According to a public survey of gay tolerance carried out by the Pew Research Center, Pakistan came out among the least tolerant nations with only 2 percent of those surveyed believing society should accept homosexuality. This isn't really suprsing considering that gay sex is illegal under Pakistani penal code. Similarly, Nigeria — where only 1% of the population believe homosexuality should be accepted — recently passed a draconian anti-gay bill that seeks to criminalize homosexuality as well as gay rights.

As an astute writer for Mother Jones  pieced together, low tolerance towards homosexuality isn't the only thing these countries and other vehemently anti-gay societies have in common. Google Trends indicates that Pakistan is "by volume the word leader for Google searchers of the terms 'shemale sex,' 'teen anal sex,' and 'man f-cking man'. Both Pakistan and Nigeria rank in the top five for Google searches of the term "gay sex pics" and "anal sex pics." Kenya, another fiercely anti-gay nation, ranked first for both searches:

It's difficult to ignore the correlation. Countries with brutality LGBT intolerant societies seem to be fascinated by gay porn.

According to Farahnaz Ispahani, a Pakistani politician, due to stifling societal pressure, most gays in Pakistan are still in the closet and turn to pornography "because they can't live their lives openly." In Nigeria, gays face open discrimination and abuse in a country divided by Christians and Muslims who almost uniformly oppose homosexuality.
