At the sentencing hearing today, Wright, 30, broke down into tears and claimed she was sexually abused as a child and the victim of manipulation by business partner Mark Strong. The Portland Press Herald reports that Wright said today:
These actions were not taken because I wanted to. I did not feel like I was in a situation where I was able to choose.
Strong, 57, was found guilty by a jury in March of 13 counts related to promotion of prostitution and was sentenced to 20 days in jail. He was released after five days for good behavior.
The high-profile case rocked the sleepy town of Kennebunk as the scandal provided salacious details of Wright running a one-woman brothel and keeping extensive records of her interactions with more than 100 clients, including keeping sex videos of her servicing customers.
Before being handcuffed and taken into custody, Wright toldthe judge that she when she gets out of jail that she hopes to help women in similar situations. The AP reports that Wright told the judge:
It's my intention to stand up for what is right. When I'm out, I'm going to pursue helping people fight through situations that are similar to mine. I'm optimistic that something good will come out of this.
