Syrian Electronic Army Claims Responsibility for AP Twitter Hack

The Syrian Electronic Army is claiming responsibility for today’s AP Twitter hack and subsequent tweet, which claimed there had been explosions in the White House and that President Obama had been injured.

The “Army” is an informal group of pro-Assad hackers that has recently hacked several other high-profile accounts, reports the Washington Post.

Last week the group were in the news for hacking into NPR’s Twitter account, apparently due to the their coverage of the Syrian Civil War.
