Red Sox Player’s Custom Bat Has Names of Boston Bombing Victims

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes will do his part in honoring the deceased victims of Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing when he takes the field for today’s game, reports NBC Sports.

Gomes will play with a customized bat engraved with the names of the fallen victims. Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks took a picture of the custom bat and posted a pic of it on Twitter:

Jonny Gomes is known for his philanthropic efforts in the sports community. He has done plenty of charity work in the Tampa Bay area through his efforts with the Boys and Girls Club, as well as several schools in the area.

He also sponsored nine Little League Teams in his home town of Petaluma, California, during his years as a professional baseball player. In addition, Gomes is involved with Camp for A Cure, an annual charity baseball camp.
