Hillary Clinton, ex-Secretary of State who recently left the Obama administration, is writing another book. Here's what you need to know about Secretary Clinton's new memoir.
1. This will be Clinton's Fifth Book
Clinton has written a number of books, and the unnamed-memoir will be Clinton's fifth. The list of books authored by Hillary Clinton include:
It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us
Dear Socks, Dear Buddy: Kids' Letters to the First Pets
An Invitation to the White House: At Home with History
2. It will Focus on Foreign Policy, Which is Interesting After the Benghazi Incident
As Secretary of State for President Obama's first term, Clinton has been deeply involved in foreign policy. The memoir will focus on Clinton's experience as Secretary of State and representing the United States internationally. The topic of the book is intriguing, especially after the Benghazi incident. In the final months of her tenure as Secretary of State, an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya took the lives of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Critics blasted the Obama administration and Clinton for mishandling the indicident, which led to a Congressional hearing where Clinton gave her testimony on the affair.
3. The Terms of her Book Deal Hasn't Been Revealed
The financial details about Hillary Clinton's new book hasn't been announced as of yet. The memoir, published by Simon and Schuster, should bring Clinton quite a bit of money. A memoir about her years as First Lady of the White House raked in an $8 million advance, close to a record at the time.
4. The Book Will Be Released In June 2014
The book was announced today, but won't be available until June 2014, over a year away. Not only does this give time for Clinton to fine tune the book, but also give both Clinton and Simon & Schuster to hype up the book and release some timely passages to increase the buzz for the memoir.
5. The Memoir Could be a Precursor to a 2016 Presidential Run
Many are predicting that Clinton's decision to release a book on her experiences working as a member of the Cabinet could mean that she could be gearing up for a presidential run. Clinton ran against Obama in 2008, but lost in the Democratic Primaries. Clinton seems to be one of the frontrunners for the 2016 Democratic nomination, along with Vice President Joe Biden. A June 2014 release would mean that Clinton would be holding a Summer/Fall 2014 book tour, which should increase her profile for a 2016 Presidential run.
