Rosie Crum, the widow of slain Sheriff Eugene Crum, has been appointed as his successor as interim sheriff by the county of Mingo, reports WSAZ.

Her husband was shot and murdered in cold blood as he sat in his SUV eating lunch near the county court house in Williamson, West Virginia.

A special meeting of the county's commissioners was convened today to appoint a new sheriff, and the outcome of that meeting was to appoint Rosie Crum as the new interim sheriff.

Rosie was elected unanimously and will fill the position until 2014, which was the end of her late husband's term.

Eugene Crum was elected as sheriff on the basis of tackling Mingo County's drug problem. He made several large busts during the course of his short term as the main law man in Mingo County. Crum was sworn into the position in January 2013.
