Watch out, criminals, because Dubai — known for extravagance funded by gobs of oil cash — has a new vehicle that is fast enough to catch whatever you're driving. Emirates 24/7 reports that the Dubai police department has unveiled the Lamborghini Aventador as a police cruiser in their car fleet.
The white and green Lamborghini Aventador has a top speed of 217 mph and can reach 60 mph in only three seconds. The car was unveiled on the Dubai Police HQ's Twitter page on Wednesday, with a picture of the car patrolling the streets with the caption saying, "Latest #Dubai_Police patrols, now at your service."
The tweet received numerous responses from followers. The car has been compared with the KITT vehicle from the Knight Rider television series.
The $450,000 car was revealed this week sporting the license plate number 8. The Aventador will be the first in a line of fast sports cars set to be released into Dubai. Dubai police released a statement saying that they will be introducing sports cars to their fleet to enhance their patrolling abilities. However, the new police cruiser won't be used everywhere to stop crime. The Italian-made sports car will mainly be used in tourist areas to be used according to deputy police director General Khamis Matter al-Muzaina to show "How classy Dubai is."
The Lamborghini launched the Aventador earlier this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary for the car manufacturer.
Lamborghinis are used primarily by the police in countries like Panama, UK, and Italy.
