Victoria Vovchik is the woman that was found stabbed to death on Thursday in her New York home beside her 7-year-old daughter who was stabbed 31 times. It's believed that the woman took her own life and tried to murder her daughter, but it is unclear as to why. 1. Victoria Vovchik Was Found Stabbed to Death in Her New York Home on Thursday
Victoria Vovchik was found stabbed to death on Thursday afternoon next to her 7-year-old daughter, Ava Sangavaram, reports the Daily Mail. Police report that the girl was stabbed 31 times, including across the throat, but was still alive when discovered.
2. They Were Discovered by the Girl's Father
The gruesome scene was discovered by the girl's father, Kristappa Sangavaram, in the master bedroom of her New City, New York home when he visited on Thursday. Police said Ava was conscious when he found her and he immediately called 911.
"I believe he came home and discovered them," Clarkstown Sgt. Jo Anne Fratianni said during a news conference. "She was conscious, I believe."
3. There Was No Note
Vovchik did not leave behind a note explaining why she took her own life and tried to murder her daughter.
4. The Girl is Expected to Survive
Ray Florida, executive director of Rockland Paramedic Services said that Ava was able to speak when she was being treated and that, although she is listed as being in critical condition, she is expected to survive.
"She's doing fine," Sangavaram said. "She's OK. I cannot say more."
5. Vovchik and the Girl's Father Were Friends
Sangavaram and Vovchik did not live together, but co-owned the home the the little girl were living in. Sangavaram had been married to a different woman before her death last year, but the two remained friends and took care of Ava together.
"It’s a touchy situation because he had a child with her but wasn't married to her," Sangavaram's son, Preeth, told The Journal News. "The child was very important to him, so he always tried to maintain a healthy relationship."
6. Police Don't Believe the Father Had Any Role in the Tragedy
Police brought Sangavaram in for questioning but do not believe that he had anything to do with the tragedy.
7. She Was a Doctor
Vovchik was a podiatrist and practiced in Fortlee and Montvale, New Jersey.
8. He is an Anesthesiologist
Sangavaram is an anesthesiologist and lives in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
9. Vovchik Had a Falling Out With her Family Weeks Before
The Daily Mail reports that it was discovered that Vovchik told a friend, Allison Solin, that she had a falling out with her family just weeks before she committed suicide and tried to murder her daughter. Solin told The Journal News that Vovchik said that her relatives were "all dead to me now."
"She would call me crying and say, 'Family is the most important thing to me, and I don’t feel like I have a family anymore,'" Solin said.
10. Police Are Waiting for the Girl's Recovery
Police are waiting for when Ava can speak to them after her recovery in hopes that it will shed some light as to what exactly happened on Thursday. However, it is unlikely that the girl will be able to speak to investigators for several days.
