Svetlana Pankratova has always known that she was exceptionally tall, standing at 6'5", but it wasn't until 2002 that it occurred to her that she might hold a world record. Although she is not the tallest person in the world, the Russian native holds the Guinness World Record for the longest legs. Her record-breaking legs take up over four feet of her body height.
Pankratova, 41, now resides in Falls Church, Virginia and is an assistant coach for the George Mason High School girls basketball team.
According to the Falls Church News-Press, the record-holder has been coaching at the school since 2010. When LaBryan Thomas, head coach of school's girls varsity team, found out that Pankratova was living in Falls Church he didn't hesitate to offer her the position.
Pankratova used to play the sport herself and said she enjoys being back in basketball.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity for me to work with them,” Pankratova said. “Because I stopped playing basketball... so it was great to get back to basketball and I really do enjoy it and it brings all the nice memories back and I just enjoy giving them what I know to help them any way I can.”
Pankratova started off as a swimmer, but her height made her stand out to basketball recruiters. After she graduated high school, she played college basketball and was recruited by Virginia Commonwealth University after a year. She left the university with a legacy, holding two records as VCU. She has the most blocked shots in a career (176) and the most blocked shots in a single season (75).
