Police Investigating 10 Pounds of Pot Accidentally Delivered to Kmart

Marijuana, Marijuana Delivered to Kmart, Kmart

A Seattle Kmart was surprised to find that a package containing 10 pounds of marijuana had been delivered to its stock room on Monday.

Employees discovered the pot wrapped up in garbage bags and packed with packing peanuts and pages from a Korean newspaper. A staff member called 911 to report the delivery and it was taken in as evidence.

“Delivery information on the package indicates it was originally shipped from Los Angeles to a Philadelphia address, but never made it to its intended destination in Philly,” Police spokesman Jonah Spagenthal-Lee said. “Whoever sent the package listed the address of the Seattle Kmart on the return label, for some reason.”

Had whoever sent the package waited just a few weeks longer to ship the marijuana out, it would have remained in package limbo since the Aurora Ave. Kmart is scheduled to close on in March.

The mistake raises questions of the safety of packages delivered by U.S. mail. Just what else is being shipped across America under the radar? And what exactly does the police do with all the confiscated drugs, anyway?
